The obvious one - there's tons of references to Earthbound, with its surreal landscapes, dream sequences, visual iconography, a parental figure only contactable via phone, steak being the only meal you see Sunny have whilst being the default favourite food of Ness, Apple Guy/Orange Guy being similar to Apple Kid/Orange Kid.
